The Messy Middle

A confession about conversion pressure, losing creative joy, and what happens when you start creating for everyone but yourself

I almost didn’t hit record. But I think there’s more value in sharing the messy middle than there is in only sharing the wins, so here I am.

My Instagram views skyrocketed in the last two months and I started receiving interest in how I did it. I took that as a sign to build a content program. Studying conversion and creative tension sent me into a spiral I didn’t see coming. People I had specifically built something for didn’t buy it, and that hit harder than I expected. Somewhere in the middle of all of it I realized I had started creating for everyone else instead of for myself. My content went flat the second I started chasing metrics instead of joy.

This isn’t a polished lesson with a bow on top. It’s a real time account of a recovering people pleaser learning that trying to make everyone like her content is its own form of self abandonment.

If you’ve ever built something you were excited about and watched the joy drain out of it the moment you needed it to perform, this one is for you.
